California

I’ve lived most of my life in Upstate New York and as a youngster the hills around Syracuse were mountains to me; small lakes might as well have been oceans. So, when I first set my eyes on the Atlantic Ocean as a photographer it was like finding a treasure I barely knew existed. The shores from Maine to Florida were as varied as they were distant. I didn’t think about how different the west coast might be until I was able to attend a conference in Los Angeles, California and managed to extend my trip for a few days north of the city along what is called the Central Coast.

From sunsets, to rolling hills, morning fog wafting in from the pacific each morning and elephant seals lounging on the sandy beach, each mile offered a new treasure trove of images. From the beaches of De Oro State Park and Morro Rock to the crashing surf at Pfeiffer State Park and Big Sur the scenery that attracts so many tourists always lives up to its billing.
