Featured artist at Gallery 54

I'm happy to announce that I will be the featured artist at Gallery 54 for the inaugural "First Friday Art Night" of 2013 in Skaneateles, NY. That's the first Friday in May, May 3, from 6 to 9  pm. I'm particularly enthused because I've only recently (April 1st - no fooling) become one of the owners of Gallery 54. Gallery 54 artists will be on hand for this celebration of art. Individual artist will discuss their art and help serve light refreshments to our guests. All of my work at Gallery 54 will be specially priced for First Friday customers, including scheduled Nature Photography...

Joining Gallery 54

As of today you can find my photography on display, and of course available for purchase, at a new gallery, Gallery 54 in Skaneateles, NY. When I say new gallery, I should note that I mean new to me. Gallery 54 opened for the first time in July 2009. Since, the locally owned and operated Gallery 54 has earned a reputation as a source for quality, handcrafted local art. If you'd like to visit, you'll find it located in the scenic Finger Lakes village of Skaneateles on the western edge of Onondaga County. With 14 member/owner artists it  offers customers a wide variety of high-quality and unique...

What is it about a contest?

Some of us seem to avoid contests while others are attracted to them. And, today it seems that there's a contest every time you turn around. You'll find contests conducted by magazines, such as Outdoor Photographer or Nature's Best. There are contests run by organizations such as the NANPA's (North American Nature Photography Association) annual Showcase competition and various equipment manufacturers. Then you have contests like the macro contest that photographer Mike Moats conducts at his TinyLandscapes.com or maybe the "contest" Margo Pinkerton (Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures) conducts...

Where is it?

It's been quite awhile since my last post, too long actually. It's not because there's been nothing to write about. Rather it's more due to the press of too many things on my plate. I'm trying to rectify that situation. That said, at last weekend's Lilac Festival in Rochester, NY, I promised several visitors to our exhibit that I'd post the answer to a question I had posed at our booth. So, here goes. In a nutshell, during the Lilac Festival I displayed the image seen here, inviting visitors to identify where it was, in exchange for the opportunity to win one of the 20 x 30" Endura metallic...

Artist Collaboration continues through mid-July

The artist collaboration show at The Crawl Space in Little York, NY opened this past Friday evening to an enthusiastic and receptive crowd. Some 14 participating local artists engaged visitors for more than three hours, discussing their takes on Pine Creek Reflections, a photograph by Fine Art Nature Photographer Tom Dwyer, Marietta, NY, that served as the "inspirational artwork" for the collaboration.   The Crawl Space owner and operator, Sylvia Nye, had selected the image for the collaboration last fall and "her artists," as she refers to some 30 artists exhibiting artwork for sale as year...

Artists’ Collaboration

We've been working hard to get ready for the opening day/opening show at the Crawl Space in Little York, NY.  The show will feature work by several artists ... jewelry, fabric, colored pencil, stained glass, water colors, wood, oil painting and more – all based on this image of mine, captured last fall in the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. Sylvia and Larry Nye (along with several members of their families) have been working for months to expand the gallery, adding a wonderful new gallery that will host the collaboration as its premier opening. With less than a day to go before the door open,...

Where did the Pine Creek Reflections come from?

The following was written in anticipation of the upcoming Artist Collaboration at The Crawl Space Art Gallery and Gift Shoppe in Little York, NY. The show begins this Friday evening, from 5 - 8 pm and continues Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from noon to 4 pm. Artists, including myself, will be on hand to discuss their work with visitors to the show. As a special bonus, the Crawl Space will be debuting its newly enlarged and accommodations in its 100-year old (plus) building. In my workshops and presentations, it's common for me to encourage students to focus on what caught their eye in the first...

Artist Collaboration at the Crawl Space

June  10-12 are the dates for what the Crawl Space is calling an Artist Collaboration. Last last fall, just before Christmas actually, Sylvia Nye contacted me with an extremely flattering idea. She and one of her artists were suggesting a show to open the 2011 gallery year that would feature individual works of art created by different artists with one of my photos as their "inspiration." That's her word, not mine. Still, I'm flattered and was honored to accept their invitation. I understand from Sylvia that at least a dozen artists have accepted the challenge and will be part of the season,...
